If you have a particular development issue that you want to address or problem you need to solve you may need a programme of activities to help. This page offers help in developing programmes of change and development around common issues and problems that people face.

For a specific problem we suggest a programme of exercises taken from the site that could help you. You may need to adapt some of the material to suit your situation and weave the exercises together to make the programme flow seamlessly.

If your problem isn’t listed on this page and you are a member email in and we will attempt to include it here.

Team Energy

My team has been in existence for some time and we know each other well but team energy is now quite low and we lack the cutting edge we once had.

The programme outlined below is aimed at energising an established team. It is best used off-site in a new and comfortable environment with breaks for refreshments and meals. It begins with an opportunity to review team functioning and then provides a creative way of looking at what the team does and how it does it and ends with the team target setting for the future. The whole programme takes about 6 hours including breaks and a meal.

Exercise 1 Sort Yourself Out (30 minutes)
An icebreaker that involves fun and movement and you can add your own ‘sorting themes’ so it really fits the group.

Or use Pockets and Bags as an alternative if the first suggestion is too energetic.

Exercise 2 In the Picture (90 minutes)
A chance for people to think about and discuss how they feel about themselves and their role in the team and to respond to how everyone else sees themselves. Give people plenty of time to talk and encourage quality listening to others.

Refreshment break (20 minutes)

Exercise 3 Team Pictures (90 minutes)
The theme for this team collage should be something like ‘The purpose and approaches of this team: what we should do together and how we should do it’. Having reassessed the role and functioning of individuals in the team this gives everyone the chance to contribute to what the team does and how it does it – you could limit their thinking just to team meetings.

Meal break (45 minutes)

Exercise 4 Improving Team Life (60 minutes)
To draw the session together. Look at what has been learned. This exercise should be carried out in the light of all that has gone on before in this session

Finish (30 minutes)
By creating an action list of what it is agreed must change as a result of this session
